Eight years after her recording debut, Kehlani has released what might well be her best album yet. Blue Water Road is incredibly dense, which is hardly surprising since this is what the American R&B singer is known for. This album has a vibe similar to the likes of Solange, SZA and FKA twigs. Kehlani is able to combine the pure and voluptuous sound of tracks like tangerine and little story with the sound of great R&B names from the 1990s (as on the track wish i never). Produced by Pop Wansel (Ariana Grande, J. Cole, Tory Lanez…) and Rogét Chahayed (Doja Cat, Travis Scott, Solange…), this track features an incredibly original sample of Montell Jordan’s classic This Is How We Do It. The Oakland native even has a dig at her critics with shooter interlude and ventures into the world of pop with the single up at night, featuring Justin Bieber.
