详细介绍:
Brahms originally wrote the Concerto in A minor for violin and cello in an effort to seek reconciliation with the great violinist Joseph Joachim. Here, Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrández performs the work with an impassioned romanticism, harnessing the warm and powerful sound of his stunning Stradivarius (the 1696 ‘Lord Aylesford’). He’s amply supported by the rough and ready sounds of the Czech Philharmonic, which hasn’t lost an ounce of its legendary excellence under Manfred Honeck’s firm direction.
Despite being a cello concerto, Brahms’ Double Concerto doesn’t overlook the violin part, supported here by the great Anne-Sophie Mutter, whose Stradivarius (the 1710 ‘Lord Dunraven’) sings just as sweetly here. Though some might find this version over-vitaminised, not to say over-performed, one can only admire the power of the soloists and the orchestra. They offer an exceptional fresh take on Brahms’ work, culminating in a particularly wild Hungarian-style Finale.
This superb version is cleverly coupled with Clara Schumann’s Trio in G minor, as if to illustrate the exceptional friendship she shared with both Brahms and Joachim. Anne-Sophie Mutter and Pablo Ferrández, joined by pianist Lambert Orkis, give a totally committed and emotional performance, connecting Clara’s music with her husband’s greatest piano chamber works. © François Hudry/Qobuz
