详细介绍:
According to the album sleeve, it took Elisabeth Leonskaya no more than six short days to record Mozart’s seventeen Keyboard sonatas in early 2021. They were recorded in the former Bremen radio hall, which has now been converted into an independent concert hall. This is quite the performance, and it speaks volumes about this great Russian pianist’s technique and preparation. Soon to be in her eighties, she still enjoys a discreet but intense career, with no shortage of concerts and recordings.
After playing in a duo with her friend Sviatoslav Richter for a while, Elisabeth Leonskaya left the Soviet Union in 1978 to settle in Austria. Heir to the great Russian piano tradition thanks to the teachings of Heinrich Neuhaus, Leonskaya is hardly a diva. On the contrary, she is well-known for her modesty, doing her best to avoid all unnecessary media attention. She uncovers the very essence of every piece of music she touches by focusing on simplicity, something which is perfectly reflected in this complete set of Mozart’s Sonatas: all authentically played without any fanfare. This new complete set follows in the footsteps of her colleagues Lili Kraus and Maria João Pires, who have each left their own mark on this vast corpus, of which only a few works are regularly performed in concert.
Mozart was eighteen years old when he began to compose his piano sonatas, a relatively late age in view of his aptitude. Although perhaps this was due to the evolution of the piano, which was only just starting to replace the harpsichord at the time. Often overlooked in terms of production and predominantly used from a pedagogical point of view, these Mozart Sonatas are still exemplary compositions. © François Hudry/Qobuz
