In 2014, Canadian singer and multi-instrumentalist Loreena McKennitt took stock of a 30-year career dedicated first and foremost to performances of Celtic music, to which she added inspiration from her research and travels in the heart of European, African and Asian cultures on this double album consisting of a Best Of, The Journey So Far and A Midsummer Night%27s Tour, a live recording made in Germany in July 2012. On the first, we find her hits Bonny Portmore, which came out in 1993 on the soundtrack of Highlander 3, or The Mummers%27 Dance, from her album The Book of Secrets recorded at Peter Gabriel%27s studio in 1997, as were Marco Polo and Dante%27s Prayer.
She also went back to the beginning of her career with Stolen Child, an excerpt from her 1985 debut album Elemental, a composition based on a poem by W. B. Yeats, whose verses she adapted from Down by the Sally Gardens on her record The Wind that Shake the Barleys. It also features three excerpts from her previously quoted classic The Visit (1991) Bonny Portmore, The Old Ways and her musical adaptation of Tennyson%27s famous romantic poem The Lady of Shalott. The 1990s was probably the decade when she was at the height of her powers, a thesis supported by two excerpts from the Mask and Mirror (1994): The Mystic%27s Dream and The Bonny Swans. Her luminous singing, her precise playing on the piano or harp, her romantic world anchored in ancient civilisations: all are supported with accuracy and elegance by the violins, cello, guitars, bouzouki, oud, flutes, bass clarinet and drums of her remarkable musicians. © Benjamin MiNiMuM/Qobuz
